The educational sessions and roundtables at the 2012 Retail Facilities Summit are more peer driven, discussion-based, and interactive than previous years for the summit. We have designed a summit that breaks away from PowerPoints and recycled topics- and instead we have meticulously vetted the program to feature the most important issues that matter in YOUR world. This format will facilitate participation from all in attendance as peer discussions will be the main focus throughout the entire summit. This best practices panel discussion will explore different processes that retailers must go through to solidify a successful store remodel. One of the major questions that will be explored is; what actually makes the store remodel successful? Retailers come at this from very different angles. Some set budgets and then reimage, while others do the due diligence of product benefits then imaging and branding, then budgeting. Success depends on the retailer and is measured from budget, aesthetics, timeline, client satisfaction, and final retail customer satisfaction. Some of the nation’s most renowned retailers will examine their process of meeting success through remodels.
Leaders from the USGBC will describe and examine the effects that the organization has had on the built environment. Major areas that will be addressed in the session include the development process of LEED for Retail in 2010 and the changes that have occurred to create the program that it is today. Upcoming modifications of LEED for Retail will also be previewed and detailed how they meet the needs of the industry- satisfying customer expectations while simultaneously controlling energy costs.
In this interactive session some of the nation’s leading retailers will explore the steps they have taken to strengthen their organization’s brand presence through the use of inventive store design and construction. The appearance of a physical store location is often the greatest impression that is left in the minds of consumers and the session leaders will explore the steps they have taken to leave a lasting impression in the minds of their shoppers.
In this educational session, retail industry expert(s) will evaluate the current trends in retail design and construction to determine what the future holds for the industry. Key topic areas to be discussed are determining what retail segments are expected to experience the most growth in the coming years, the changes in store size and layouts and what areas will experience the most new retail construction in the coming years.
This panel discussion will feature retailer(s) that have been recognized through the ENERGY STAR Partner of the year program and those that are active members of the Department of Energy Retail Energy Alliance. These retailers will discuss how they are moving beyond decreasing energy consumption and are now becoming more proactive in their sustainability efforts through the use of progressive renewable energy sources. The retailers will also detail their involvement with programs through the EPA and DOE and how they have provided both the education and resources to meet energy conservation goals.
This informative session will be led by representative(s) from the International Code Council and they will address some of the most pertinent questions that retailers have concerning building codes. Some of the issues to be discussed will be how retailers can meet code changes and keep costs down, the benefits of adhering to I-codes, and what exactly is the role of the IGCC. The session is meant to be more interactive and the participants are encouraged to come with questions.
In this session, retailer(s) will discuss their uses of virtual design tools as well as web-based project management in executing new construction projects. The key areas of discussion with include the implementation process of converting to paperless and the use of computer modeling to design new construction and prevent inefficiencies during the actual construction phase.
This panel discussion will be comprised of retailers that have experienced their recent store occurring outside of their native country. Topic areas to be discussed include pre-construction assessment, finding appropriate outsourced workers, and adhering to local compliance issues. The presenters will discuss their methods in generating new store growth abroad and the process improvements they have made along the way.
